First came computer games. Then came DSL, and broadband online access, followed very closely by computer games where you can play with other real people sitting in front of other real computers, somewhere else in the real world. This functionality has led to the development of several phenomenally successful “Massively Multiple Online Role Playing Games,” or MMOs as they have come to be known in the industry.

One of the most successful of these games is “World of Warcraft,” or “WoW”, which currently is believed to have about seven million active online players. Like many of its genre, World of Warcraft is built on the classic medieval fantasy model, a combination of Tolkien, Camelot, and a liberal dash of unique original elements mixed into the hoary stand-bys. The world is filled with magic spells, swords and shields, gold pieces and assorted items of value, and skills both worldly and otherworldly that a character can acquire with practice and effort – and hours online.

A player in this game creates an avatar – a fictional character whose role he (or she) assumes in the online world. The game is a never-ending series of quests that leads to slaying monsters, acquiring wealth and property and higher levels of skill – and interacting with other players in order to accomplish many of these things. Typically, a player will create an identity with a certain set of skills that allows him to join a guild of similar artisans, wizards or other virtual professionals.

There is a significant social interaction component to this game and other MMOs. Indeed, game designers build “virtual third places” to encourage interactions. Quality time in World of Warcraft can be time spent with others, be it raiding a dungeon in a group, socializing with bystanders in a cantina, or chatting with remote guild mates while exploring the wilderness on your own.

One would assume that World of Warcraft is another extension of high-school and twenty-something gamers having it out online. There is a good deal of that – but it is also clear that the game’s popularity has extended well beyond the original gaming demographic – as has interest in other MMOs such as Second Life.

The clearest indicator of the intensity with which the game is played and its extension into the world of working adults is the role -so to speak – that the game has taken on in the real world. Players have taken to developing skills or acquiring rare and virtually valuable in-game properties and selling them for real money on such exchange sites as eBay. This is not something the game developers want to encourage, and is generally forbidden, not just by World of Warcraft, but most MMOs.

The market for these products exists, though, and will continue to exist as long as their popularity continues. An author of a book on the MMO phenomenon interviewed several players who were involved in significant expenditures for game pieces such as swords, real estate or magic spells. Among them he found a carpenter, a bread truck driver and other working men with families.

Another class of “player” he encountered is the people who have quit careers to trade full time in World of War paraphernalia. Some of these individuals sell their products online – just as those who are quitting the game or having financial difficulties will sell entire characters. Rare in-game items such as powerful swords, and powerfully developed characters can bring several hundreds of dollars. While these activities help drive the popularity of the game, they are still considered against the game’s “terms of service.”

WoW has continued to shatter records for MMOs, and its combination of addicting gameplay and social interaction has proven tough to beat. Players invest a lot of time and a monthly subscription fee to enjoy the experience on a regular basis. With the deeper penetration of internet connectivity and broadband internet, the popularity of these MMOs may well grow even larger.

World of Warcraft is an amazing MMORPG with over 10 million subscribers as of January 2008 and has been providing a fun filled gaming experience to all of those who play it since 2004. As with anything though – money makes the world go around and World of Warcraft is no exception.

There are many ways to make or earn gold in WoW – you can craft, enchant, mine or even kill monsters for it. You go to the auction house and click on an auctioneer character. The first screen will pop up and you will click, SCAN. What this does is scan every single auction that is up for sale! Nice little trick.

Now that takes about 2-3 minutes. When that is finished you go to browse auction tab. What I do to find instant profits is select item by BUYOUT, and at least 1 gold profit. I then search the items and order them by sale price with the cheapest items at the top. There are usually about 10-20 items under 1 gold that will get you 2 gold profit!

Start buying the items that get you at least 1 gold profit and it will start steam rolling from there. After a while you can start buying items for 20g getting you another 20 gold profit. A very simple and easy trick or secret to world of warcraft! Enjoy.

1. Its really easy and should be done right from the start of the game. Grab the 2 primary professions, mining and skinning. While you’re out leveling yourself you can easily skin the animals. You’re bound to eventually enter a mine which will have many minerals. Be sure to mine those ores. You can easily sell off the extra items to merchants or players.
2. Make sure you grab quests every chance you get. You can easily gain additional exp, gold, items and faction while you’re leveling. You may even complete some of your quests with out even knowing because they normally require you to kill off mobs or require you to travel/speak to other NPCs. The quests of World of Warcraft are more player friendly than other MMORPGs.
3. Don’t spend any money buying World of Warcraft items, equipments and other accessories early in the game. Low level characters from 1-40 are not gear dependent. Along with that fact, you’ll get a nice load of items from just completing quests.
4. While you’re out leveling, there are certain monsters that has better drops than others. An example would be humanoids. They tend to drop more gold and items than any other creatures in the World of Azeroth.
5. This is the advice I give to friends. When setting up your character, be sure first to read about the characters plus, and minuses; then set up for the strong and weak points. Take in consideration how the character supports himself and how the character can keep going and keep on track to level without losses.
6. Don’t spend money on items at the auction during the first 10 levels of your character. Almost everything you will need will drop to you from the quests. Keep your activities balance in the amount time of questing and making products. Then, as you gain money from making and questing you will see your pocket grow.
7. The usual, your character does by the skills he has, whether it is mining, leather, or tailoring. You make and sell your products. This is how you gain, the more you practice your trade, the more gold you have in your pocket, when you sell the items. The higher the level your character is the higher the prices in the prices of your products.
8. Resale, this happened during the holidays. I know of a character that went out and bought snowballs and after collecting many, was selling them at a higher price to others. Later, bragging about the profit. Take advantage of this.
9. Once you level some you can charge others to guide them through lower quests that you can whiz threw. There are many ways to make money, for example you can protect and kill for lower characters.
10. In the group playing, be sure to express your wants and needs, to keep the character going. Drink and food on hand before; so your character can keep going till the quest is completed.

Why this run on World of Warcraft gold? Blame it on the five million people worldwide who play World of Warcraft (that’s more people than live in the state of Colorado). In addition several in-game factions maintain villages and outposts where either Alliance or Horde (or both) can obtain quests reputation-based items or flight paths. Effective use of the Auction House is another way to gain lots of money. If you have lots of items to auction, it follows logically that your earning potential from those auctions goes up. To check the value of an item before you decide to send it to a vendor, press ALT-TAB and check the internet. There are lots of sites that offer a list of the AH median prices for a variety of items. Once you know the value, you can make an informed decision about selling that item. If the item is a valuable one, don’t sell it to a vendor – bring it to the Auction House instead.

When you do put an item up for auction, make sure you stipulate a buyout price for the item (just like the “Buy It Now” price available on many eBay items). More often than not, if someone wants the item they will want to know that they can purchase it right away. Some players say that the recommended buyout price is three times the base price for green items, and pretty much whatever you want for purples and blues.

Learn how to play the bargain game. Browse the Auction House list for items going for much cheaper than they should be, buy them, and then re-list them for an appropriate price. Eventually, you’ll make yourself a lot of GP that way.

Vendors will often offer rare items that will sell at auction for many times what you paid for them. These items will be indicated with a number in their icon, and often they will disappear for a set period of time after you buy them, so it’s a good idea to make a list of who sells what. An example of this is the recipe for superior mana potion, which you can buy in the Undercity for 1.2 GP and sell it at auction for 6 GP. Another good buy is a Superior Healing Potion, which you can buy for 9 SP from a vendor and sell for 50 SP. These items are cheap to list in the AH, so you can list them multiple times and still come out with a profit.

In WoW, a Trade Skill equals profit. Whether you choose a creation/gathering combination or get two gathering professions, you can make money in each case. Trade skills like mining and herbalism, which you can acquire in the AH, have the potential to earn you lots of money. The key here is to understand what items will sell. After all, there’s no benefit to being skilled at making something nobody wants, right? Again, the internet is a great resource for figuring out which items carry the highest price. Once you know that, gather the ingredients you need (herbs, etc.).

These are just a few tips for getting the most GP possible out of the game; it is by no means an exhaustive list. However, if you do these things you’ll be well on your way to being able to buy whatever you need at those high levels!

World of Warcraft’s appeal lies in that it has created a truly engaging online world. The Rogue class has 2 unique secondary professions: Poisons and Lockpicking.
